2024 Ford F-150 vs. 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Comparison

Jack R. Nerad | Jun 20, 2024

The ongoing saga of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150 is one of the most intense rivalries in the auto business. Full-size pickups are not only the top sellers in the U.S. new-vehicle market but also very profitable for the manufacturers. As two of the most popular models in the segment, the F-150 and Silverado butt heads every step of the way.

Given these trucks' substantial sales and profits, pickup truck makers continuously innovate to meet consumer demands. From expansive infotainment screens to diverse customization options, Chevrolet and Ford prioritize features that cater to truck buyers' preferences for utility, comfort, and style.

The core functions of a pickup truck have remained largely unchanged since the 1950s. But the shift to four-door cab configurations, which now dominate, has transformed these pickups from work vehicles into family-friendly, multi-purpose assets. They serve as both workhorses for tradespeople and daily drivers for those who simply like the idea of driving a truck instead of a car.

These two stalwarts are right at home in both use cases. The Silverado's 2022 refresh transformed its cabin into a much nicer place to spend time, and Ford intended for the F-150's 2024 update to make the truck even more purposeful and easy to use.

Both trucks excel in nearly every category. This detailed comparison between the 2024 Ford F-150 and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 should help you decide which better meets your needs.

Chevy offers three cab configurations, but the two-door, single-row regular cab is only available in the WT trim. Multiple powertrains, bed lengths, and RWD and 4WD are available across the line.

The WT Regular Cab with RWD is the least expensive 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, with an MSRP of $36,800. The High Country is at the top of the mainstream lineup, with a starting list price of $62,700. On the specialty front, the ZR2 premium off-roader has a base price of $69,900. Prices do not include the $1,995 destination charge.

Chevrolet covers Silverado owners with roadside assistance coverage for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The pickup’s first oil change and tire rotation are complimentary. OnStar and connected services are available on all new 2024 Silverado 1500 models, and Chevy includes three years of remote access in the Silverado’s suggested retail price. It allows drivers to start and turn off the truck, lock and unlock its doors, and check its fuel level.

Safety and Driving Assistance

At this point, it is reasonable for any consumer to expect a brand-new vehicle to include the following safety features:

So, how do the F-150 and Silverado 1500 stack up? Let's take a look.

The 2024 Ford F-150 makes most of the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) listed above standard in a collection called Ford Co-Pilot 360. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning aren’t part of that package, but they are standard across the board too. An enhanced ADAS offering that’s optional on the XLT and standard on higher trims includes adaptive cruise control, trailer reverse guidance, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

Most 2024 F-150 trims offer Ford’s BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system as an option. This system enables hands-free driving on over 130,000 miles of North American highways. The system leverages adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, and traffic-sign recognition to allow the F-150 to drive itself while the driver remains attentive.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2024 F-150 the highest-possible five-star overall rating, but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) did not name it a Top Safety Pick for the 2024 calendar year.

Chevy Safety Assist—a suite of active safety features—is standard on every new 2024 Silverado. It includes most of the systems listed at the top of this section. Rear pedestrian alert, rear cross-traffic warning with automatic braking, blind-spot warning (including trailer coverage), and trailer hitch guidance are available. The Silverado offers several camera-based systems, including HD Surround Vision, which gives selectable views of the area immediately surrounding the truck.

The Silverado High Country also offers available Super Cruise, a hands-free semi-autonomous driving system similar to Ford’s BlueCruise. The Chevrolet system offers hands-off driving even when towing a trailer.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earned the NHTSA’s top five-star overall safety rating but failed to receive a Top Safety Pick designation from the IIHS for the 2024 calendar year.

Advantage: Neither

Why? These trucks match up evenly in this category, employing similar ADAS, hands-free driving tech, and safety scores.

Infotainment and Technology

The 2024 Ford F-150 features the Sync 4 infotainment system across the lineup. It has a 12-inch capacitive touchscreen with swipe capabilities, AM/FM radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM 360L. The system’s voice-command function processes natural-voice requests, and connected navigation is standard across the board in a one-year trial. An eight-speaker B&O sound system by Bang & Olufsen and an 18-speaker B&O system are options on top trims.

FordPass Connect enables a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. Among the many connectivity functions are stolen-vehicle locator services and 5G over-the-air software updates.

The F-150’s digital driver information display allows the operator to scroll through driver-assistance features and trailering-related menus and even adjust the optional head-up display. Ford makes trailering more manageable with the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which steers the truck and trailer in reverse using a console-mounted knob. The optional Pro Trailer Hitch Assist guides the truck to the trailer hitch automatically at the push of a button.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT and Custom have a 7-inch touchscreen along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SiriusXM satellite radio is available on the WT and standard across the rest of the lineup. Chevrolet equips most Silverado trims with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with Google Built-in. It features a customizable 13.4-inch touchscreen, AM/FM/SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Bose seven-speaker system is the premium sound option.

All services can work with OnStar and Chevrolet Connected Services. OnStar is the granddaddy of connectivity, offering several safety and convenience subscription plans. Chevy equips the Silverado with the automaker’s Teen Driver system, which includes a buckle-to-drive feature and others designed to foster safe driving habits by younger drivers. All 2024 Silverado 1500s are Wi-Fi hotspot-capable.

The 2024 Silverado 1500 offers a sophisticated exterior camera system designed to aid trailering and parking as an option. It consists of eight cameras providing up to 14 views: four hitch views, four parking views, and six driving views (including one enabling the driver to “see through” the towed trailer).

Advantage: Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Why? Both trucks offer excellent tech, but the Silverado’s multi-camera system outpoints the F-150’s offering.

Comfort and Utility

The 2024 Ford F-150 lineup offers three cab styles, three pickup bed lengths, and a wide variety of interior treatments. All the interiors are well-designed and functional, but the sophistication of the materials depends on the trim level. Some trims offer standard cloth seats, but vinyl seats are optional. The up-level trims feature leather seats.

Ten-way power-adjustable driver and multi-adjustable power front passenger seats are optional on the Tremor and standard on Lariat and higher trims. An eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is optional on the XLT. Heated front seats are optional on the XLT and standard on more expensive trims. The F-150 also offers a folding shift lever that allows drivers to use the center console area as a desk or table. In the back, flip-up rear seats open up lockable cargo space.

A remote tailgate release is optional on the XLT and standard on higher trims, and a power-operated tailgate and a Pro Access Tailgate are also available. The latter has a swinging door within the tailgate to make reaching into the truck bed easier.

Like the F-150, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado offers three cab configurations, multiple wheelbase lengths, and several bed lengths. The WT and Custom trims are commercially oriented, while the dual-use and personal trucks start with the LT trim, which, like its more expensive brethren, sports a different, more elaborate interior. Depending on the trim, the truck offers vinyl, cloth, and perforated leather seats.

A 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is standard on all but the WT; a 10-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat is standard on the upper trims. Heated front seats are standard on all but the WT and Custom. Some trims offer an optional console-mounted safe.

Silverado 1500 buyers can opt for the six-function Multi-Flex tailgate, which includes fold-down steps to aid entry to the cargo box. A power-operated tailgate is available on the top trims.

Advantage: Neither

Why? Both the F-150 and Silverado offer roomy, functional interiors that are finished to match their intended uses, from a basic work pickup to a luxurious six-passenger family vehicle.
